Sony’s Michael Lynton has recently said in an investers meeting that they are planning to make Spider-Man spin-offs in some fashion.
“We do very much have the ambition about creating a bigger universe around Spider-Man,” said Lynton in remarks published by Deadline. There are a number of scripts in the works.” Of course, expanded Spider-Man films are hardly new: The Amazing Spider-Man is on course for a third outing and Venom has been touted as a likely solo project for some time now. But this is the first time a senior executive has come out and explicitly talked about bubbling plans.
With Sony owning Spider-Man and Disney owning Marvel there's no chance of seeing Spidey joining the Avengers or any kind of team ups any time soon. If only Sony, Disney and Fox could come together and give the fans what they want, a Marvel cinematic universe without restrictions or limits.
